Donors double impact

21 Oct 2025

For a short time only, every donation to the Far North Queensland Hospital Foundation’s Donate for DaNi campaign will be matched dollar-for-dollar, bringing our region $200,000 closer to acquiring state-of-the-art robotic surgical technology.
This powerful Matched Giving campaign offers an exciting chance for donors to double their impact — but the window won’t stay open for long, with just three weeks available to capitalise on the opportunity.
Thanks to the extraordinary generosity of Ellis and Denise Richardson, the Far North Queensland Hospital Foundation’s Donate for DaNi campaign is edging closer to its $4.3 million goal every day.
The initiative seeks to bring cutting-edge surgical robotics to Cairns Hospital, supporting urology, gynaecology and general surgery patients.
The Richardsons have pledged to match every dollar donated by the public, up to $100,000, effectively doubling the impact of every contribution made during the campaign period.
“We decided to support this campaign in such a way because we’re passionate about everyone in this region having access to the best possible health care. Just because people live in Far North Queensland, shouldn’t mean we don’t have access to the best facilities,” Mr Richardson said.
“This is a remarkable act of generosity from Ellis and Denise,” Foundation CEO Gina Hogan said.
“Their commitment to improving health care in our region is deeply inspiring, and their matched giving pledge will help us accelerate towards our goal of $4.3 million to fund the DaNi surgical robot,” Mrs Hogan said.
The Donate for DaNi campaign has already raised more than $3.6 million through a combination of corporate donations, community events, and individual contributions. The addition of the Matched Giving campaign is expected to galvanise further support from across Far North Queensland.
“Every dollar donated now has twice the power,” Mrs Hogan said. “This is a chance for our community to come together and make a lasting difference. DaNi will transform surgical care in our region – minimising recovery times, reducing travel for patients, and delivering world-class outcomes right here in Cairns. We’re on the home straight now – we can see the final target and with our community’s support, we know we’ll get there.”
The Foundation is calling on individuals, businesses, and community groups to get involved – whether through direct donations, fundraising events, or corporate partnerships. All contributions made during the campaign will be matched dollar-for-dollar until for a short, three-week period.
“This campaign is about more than just fundraising,” Mrs Hogan added. “It’s about hope, innovation, and the belief that our region deserves the very best in health care.”
