Healy helps heroes

A LOCAL MP has put his hand in his pocket to support the region’s Health Heroes.
Member for Cairns Michael Healy has donated $1000 to the Far North Queensland Hospital Foundation’s Health Heroes campaign and urged others to support it as well.
“My contribution to the Far North Queensland Hospital Foundation Feed our Heroes Campaign is a small gesture to show our thanks for the incredible job that the Health Heroes are doing,” Mr Healy said.
“Our incredible Health Heroes have been at the forefront of this pandemic for the past two years.  They have sacrificed so much to keep our community safe, and are faced daily with the challenges that goes hand-in-hand with this pandemic,” he said.
“I would love to see others get on board this great campaign instigated by the Far North Queensland Hospital Foundation.”
Foundation CEO Gina Hogan was grateful for the support.
“The campaign’s doing well. We kicked off with a $10,000 donation from the Northern Frontier Foundation and we’re now up to almost $16, 000,” Mrs Hogan said.
“Because of the Foundation’s cafes, we’ve been able to distribute hundreds of meals to well-deserving Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service staff so far,” she said.
“And we’re now starting to roll out meals to staff at some of the outlying hospitals as well, which takes a bit more logistically but it’s important to support them as well.”
“We know many staff of the health service are under a lot of pressure. Some are working extra shifts, going the extra mile to care tirelessly for patients and they’re doing multiple days of on-call. In those circumstances, sometimes you don’t get time to cook a meal or go to the shops, so this is our way of giving those health staff a boost.”
