Taking cancer care to the next level in FNQ

Raised: $1,585,000

Cancer services in Far North Queensland are set to improve with the development of a new Cancer Care Hub in partnership with the Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service. The new hub, to be located at Cairns Hospital, will provide patients with more treatment options closer to home, leading to better outcomes for patients and their families.

Over the past five years, cancer activity at the Liz Plummer Cancer Care Centre has increased by 40%, because advancements in treatment allow people to live longer. But to meet this growing demand, we need to expand our facilities.

With your support, we can now:

  • Reduce the need for patients to travel south for treatment.
  • Increase the number of daily treatments, chemotherapy treatment chairs, and clinical treatment rooms.
  • Introduce chemotherapy manufacturing on-site.
  • Provide a less traumatic experience for inpatients.
  • Save more lives.

This project, costing $3.4 million, is a joint effort with $1.9 million from Queensland Health and $1.5 million from community donations.

Your contribution will help us save lives and provide better care for our community.
