Volunteer Program Coordinator

The Far North Queensland Hospital Foundation is seeking a capable and people-focused Volunteer Program Coordinator to lead and grow our volunteer program across the region.
In this role, you will connect passionate individuals with meaningful opportunities, ensuring our volunteers feel supported, valued, and well-equipped. You will lead a well-established program that plays a critical role in supporting health services across Far North Queensland.
Volunteers are central to the Foundation’s impact. With almost 1000 registered volunteers, including our valued Friends of the Foundation groups, supporting fundraising and hospital services from Tully to the Torres Strait, this is an opportunity to lead a program of real scale and significance.
Key responsibilities

  • Develop, implement and manage the Volunteer Services Plan to agreed outcomes
  • Promote and strengthen the volunteer program across Far North Queensland
  • Lead and support volunteers to meet the needs of local health services
  • Manage end-to-end volunteer recruitment, including attraction strategies, applications, interviews and onboarding
  • Design and deliver engaging training and development programs
  • Assess needs and align volunteers to suitable roles
  • Build strong relationships with volunteers, provide ongoing support, and recognise contributions
  • Coordinate volunteer activities and events
  • Manage rostering, administration, and volunteer databases
  • Oversee financial management and reporting requirements
  • Provide support and advice to internal and external stakeholders
  • Assist with day-to-day office operations as required
    Key selection criteria
    Essential
  • Excellent time management and organisational ability
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated administration experience, minimum 2 years
  • Confidence in presenting to and engaging groups
  • Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
    Highly regarded
  • Experience in volunteer coordination
  • A genuine interest in community contribution or previous volunteer experience
  • Experience in content creation or basic design
  • Experience with CRM systems, particularly Dynamics
  • Understanding of the not-for-profit sector in Australia
