Rehabilitation patients at Cairns Hospital will travel a smoother path to recovery, thanks to the generosity of local road construction company FGF Developments.
Their latest donation of $21,000 has funded the purchase of a MOTOmed machine for the hospital’s Physiotherapy Department through the Far North Queensland Hospital Foundation.
Amputee Rehabilitation Physiotherapist Cath Parnaby said the MOTOmed device was designed for people with movement restrictions and enables users to train their upper or lower limbs from a seated position – whether in a wheelchair or chair.
“This equipment will make a significant difference to the lives of patients who require intensive rehabilitation. We are incredibly grateful to FGF Developments for their continued support of our community,” Ms Parnaby said.
“This innovative therapy is particularly beneficial for patients recovering from neurological conditions such as stroke, spinal cord and brain injuries, as well as those managing amputations or other complex health conditions.”
Used alongside one-on-one therapy sessions led by physiotherapists, the MOTOmed enhances the intensity and effectiveness of rehabilitation. Positioned in the hospital’s rehabilitation gym, it will be accessible to patients in acute and rehabilitation wards, as well as outpatients participating in cardiac and amputee rehabilitation programmes.
FGF Developments Business Manager Murray Moule said they were pleased to support the Foundation and patients in the region, yet again.
“We heard that this was a piece of equipment that was needed to help people in the region, so we were happy to help,” Mr Moule said.
FGF has previously supported the Foundation’s surgical microscope campaign and also is a sponsor of the BDO Arrow Experience event.
Foundation CEO Gina Hogan paid tribute to the Moule family for yet again stepping up for their community.
“The Moule family and FGF’s generosity in supporting their community is well-known. They are motivated to make a difference and help others in the region,” Mrs Hogan said.
“Yet again, we’re incredibly grateful to showcase the support of this local family and business that is literally building the community but also help build health services,” she said.
