PATIENTS undergoing chemotherapy treatment at the Liz Plummer Cancer Care Centre will have a brighter welcome thanks to community support.
Dawn Evans and financial advisor Matthew Parrish of Parrish Financial, this week visited the centre to inspect a mural now in place thanks to their donation to the Far North Queensland Hospital Foundation.
Together, their $5000 donation was made in honour of Dawn’s husband Graham, who passed away in 2018.
“Mr and Mrs Evans were both very grateful for the dedicated care they received from the Liz Plummer Cancer Care Centre, and in appreciation Dawn wished to make a donation,” Mr Parrish said.
“It’s truly wonderful to see how making a donation like this can help brighten the day of patients who can be undergoing incredibly difficult times,” he said.
Foundation CEO Tony Williamson thanked the pair for their support of the Liz Plummer Cancer Care Centre.
“Let’s face it, everyone in the community is touched by cancer in some way and this was a request from the unit to help brighten the days of their patients,” Mr Williamson said.
Centre nurse Hannah Pope said many patients enjoyed watching the mural be painted by artist Michelle Toohey.
“It became a real talking point for our patients and of course it means now we have this beautiful piece to help take their mind off what is happening in their lives for a moment,” Ms Pope said.
