Teams in motion

5 Jul 2019

TWO teams of allied health workers from one business have joined forces to walk the Arrows of Mt Whitfield for the Far North Queensland Hospital Foundation.
Motion Osteopathy Associate Osteopath Dr Luke Marinelli said they had registered two teams of four, because they simply could not fit all the staff who wanted to be involved in the cause, in one team.
The MG Arrow Experience, hosted by the Foundation, is a fundraising walk of two or four of the walks of Mt Whitfield on July 14.
Participants pay a small registration fee and fundraise a minimum of $100 per person. More than $60, 000 was raised last year for equipment at the Cairns Hospital emergency department, with funds again going to that section this year.
“We recognise the crucial role that Emergency Departments have in the community – we are grateful and full of admiration for the amazing staff at the hospital who strive day in and day out to support our local community. Plus we had a great time on the trails last year,” Dr Marinelli said.
“I have treated staff from the hospital who continue to offer their amazing skills and services. I’ve also treated patients who have urgently needed further medical help and have been welcomed into the Cairns Hospital immediately,” he said.
“Not only does this event support an amazing cause, but it does so in a way that is a celebration of the amazing surrounds that Cairns offers, while getting a workout as well. Exercise is often the first form of advice we provide to patients to assist with a huge variety of health-related conditions ranging from common aches and pains, to mental health and long term health conditions.”
Foundation fundraising coordinator Annette Jarrett said registrations are still open, with a range of fun, food and music to be at the Aeroglen touch field for the after-party once participants finish walking.
“It’s the last day of the school holidays this year so a great opportunity for a family day out before the back-to-school routine kicks in again. With school holidays now upon us, it’s also a great opportunity to do a fun fitness activity with the kids as training,” Mrs Jarrett said.
